Bad Breath

If you are suffering from bad breath, it can affect your personal life as well as your professional life. Bad breath is a very personal issue; most people will not come right up to you and tell you that you have bad breath. Be aware of social cues and be prepared to take action. It can be an embarrassing fact of life when you have bad breath. But what exactly causes bad breath?

Common Causes of Bad Breath

Most people have the worst breath in the morning when they first wake up. You may have fresh breath for a few hours after you brush, but as the day progresses, bad breath may creep slowly back into your mouth and make the people you deal with uncomfortable.

Sometimes causes of bad breath are situational. It may be you notice your breath after you have eaten a meal that is full of garlic or onions. It could be that your breath smells like smoke from cigarettes or cigars, or perhaps alcoholic beverages.

Many people use gums, sprays and other types of breath fresheners to mask the effects of halitosis. This is another name for bad breath. If you use breath fresheners, and the underlying cause of bad breath is poor dental hygiene or certain foods you have eaten, the sprays or mouth washes will only be a temporary cover to the odors.

People who suffer from the chronic causes of bad breath have the worst cases of halitosis. Chronic bad breath is characterized by a persistent fetid odor that emanates from the mouth and or nose. People who suffer with chronic bad breath and have excellent oral hygiene often don’t know what to do about their condition.

The most common cause of bad breath is from a bacterium that is naturally present in your mouth. The bacterium feeds off the food particles that are left over from your last meal. There are many ways you can fight the effects of this.

Use a good toothbrush that will get in between teeth. Many people neglect the inside of their teeth as well as their back teeth when they are brushing. You should be sure that you brush your teeth correctly and regularly. You should also be aware that all toothpastes and mouthwashes are not created equal.

Some products that are to be used for oral hygiene exacerbate the problem instead of helping it. You should use products that have baking soda and peroxide as their main ingredients.

Dental floss is also recommended. Cleaning between the teeth and gums with the dental floss, will rid the mouth of decaying food left between the teeth. Follow with a mouth wash. This will rinse your mouth and disinfect the mouth from any bacterium.

Flossing, brushing and washing products will certainly aid in the reduction of bad breath. You will certainly feel more confident when you are having face to face conversations with colleagues or someone special.
